Guia Real Rioja Tinto Spanish Red Wine
AWARDS (mouse over to view)
  • Rioja from a dream vintage for under seven quid? Some mistake here surely!
  • Lovers of silky smooth, rich and mellow reds cannot fail to fall for this seductive little charmer.
  • Perfect for parties. You won't look cheap but you won't break the bank either.

We Say...

This is a wine with all the sweet fruit that you expect from traditional Rioja. That means plenty of rich ripe fruit but at heart a good, simple and easy-to-drink red. You can take this wine to parties (where you won't look Gallo cheap), share it with a partner watching a weepy movie or produce it at starched Sunday lunches with the in-laws. It's got flavour and credibility. What are you waiting for?

David
OK, but the value is better from other areas (surprise!)
John
Very nice, easy drinking, smooth
karl
fairly average, not overly impressed
JM
Gorgeous!!
Neil
Probably 3.5 really. Okay, but nothing special.
JOHN
Not unpleasant. It just made me think my taste buds had stopped working! Very poor. How it gets a DOC classification I can'r imagine. It's for non wine-drinkers.
yvonne
enjoed it very much
john
very moreish any body that says different must be on drugs
Gordon
OK - a little bland. Prob wouldn't order again.
Helen
Slightly fizzy, no depth, not much flavour either :o(. Still have 2 bottles so if they are all the same I will be asking for money back or replacements.

The Wine Maker Says...

Name: Roberto de Carlo
Vineyard: Bodegas Carlos Serres
Country: Spain

Our Guia Real wines are produced from grapes grown in our vineyards around Haro and Briones in Rioja Alta. Our objective is to produce wines which are substantial and full of fruit in an approachable modern style. We use oak ageing for some of our wines but use it sparingly, preferring wines where the vibrant plum and cherry characters of good quality Tempranillo grapes are predominate rather than being overpowered by the flavours of oak.

A youthful, modern, vibrant, unoaked tempranillo. Oozing with red fruits, fresh cherries and plums with hints of spicy complexity. Soft and easy to drink with approachable ripe fruit yet well-structured. A great entry level Rioja.
